Caught up with Kim English for a column planned for Sunday’s paper. Talked to an athlete from K-State and one from Kansas, too, and I hope the column won’t be like what you’re used to reading about college sports. Please check it out.

For now, though, here’s what he said about preparing for the draft:

It’s awesome. I’m loving it. I’m loving having basketball be my job. I’m loving these workouts, playing in front of (NBA) personnel, the interviews, getting invited to different camps. It’s what I’ve been waiting my whole life for. The draft is (43) days away.”

Kim is being represented by Leon Rose, whose clients include fellow Baltimore native Carmelo Anthony, as well as LeBron James and Chris Paul and others. Kim compared the process to picking a school, which he enjoyed, along with the subsequent conversations with NBA folk…

It’s what I’ve been hearing forever. They like my ability to shoot, they like my professionalism, that I’m a student of the game, my ability to guard, my toughness, that I guarded power forwards all this season and made them non-factors. But we’ll see. You really don’t know what they think of you by what they’re saying, we’ll see what they think of me on draft night.”

Kim isn’t on most NBA draft projections, most likely needing a free agent deal and then trying to make a roster or choose another professional league.

The only thing he knows for sure is that the next time he plays in an organized game, it won’t be as a power forward.

That is 110% certain,” he says.

The Royals should know why the city they play for is suspicious. Nothing personal, guys, but Alex Gordon and Sal Perez and especially James Shields and Jeremy Guthrie might want to know why a fan base starved to watch a winner is watching their best team in 20 years like ... Read more »
