Comment From Jason Are you as geeked out as I am about facing Haley on Monday night? 1:03
Sam Mellinger: Oh, hell…. 1:03
Sam Mellinger: Why not?…. 1:04
Sam Mellinger: This season went beyond sad and straight into funny for me a few weeks back — I think when Wallace pwned Stanford Routt on that long TD catch — so I’m all for as much comedy as the Chiefs can give us…. 1:04
Sam Mellinger: I hope Todd Haley sends a few obscene gestures, tries a million trick plays, and generally acts like a crazy person… 1:04
Sam Mellinger: Because if we don’t have comedy, what do we have? 1:04
Comment From Guest whats your take on Pioli going to North Carolina this week? think he’s given up and is on his way out? 1:05
Sam Mellinger: He’s scouting…. 1:05
Sam Mellinger: Regular part of the schedule, does it every year, like every GM. 1:05
Comment From Craig How did Billy win MVP and not Alex? 1:06
Sam Mellinger: Good question… 1:06
Sam Mellinger: I’m not sure if we’re supposed to disclose our votes, but mine went to Alex… 1:06
Sam Mellinger: I just think he had a better year, and is (or at least was this year…and last year) the better all-around player…. 1:07
Sam Mellinger: But let’s not act like Billy doesn’t have a case. He does. He’s their best hitter, the one guy you can count on not to go into a big slump, those are all valuable things… 1:07
Sam Mellinger: I just felt like Alex had the better case. 1:07
Comment From Mike How much longer can the Chiefs go without being in the lead during a game? We already have the record!! 1:08
Sam Mellinger: Yeah, we’re witnessing history here, folks… 1:08
Sam Mellinger: It really is one of the most remarkable stats you will ever hear, right up there with DiMaggio’s 56 games… 1:09
Sam Mellinger: I’m just looking forward to the explosion of simultaneous Twitter snark when it does happen, the calls for a parade, the wondering about which players are up to the task of putting Romeo on their shoulders. 1:09
Comment From Big B If things continue to be so bad for the Chiefs, do you think anybody’s job within the organization is safe? 1:10
Sam Mellinger: Clark’s. 1:10
Sam Mellinger: Clark’s. 1:10
Comment From Tony What do you take of Guthrie supposedly wanting 3 years, 34 mil?? 1:11
Sam Mellinger: I want the same…. 1:11
Sam Mellinger:
Don’t think either of us will get it….

Sam Mellinger: Absolutely fascinating…. 1:54
Sam Mellinger: I’ve thought a lot about this, actually… 1:54
Sam Mellinger: The easy answer is that, no, there is nowhere in the country and perhaps the continent where he wouldn’t coach the dog out of a program and get it much better…. 1:54
Sam Mellinger: But there’s also a thought that he’s been good, in part, BECAUSE of K-State…. 1:55
Sam Mellinger: The administration has supported him, even in the beginning when they had to do it with money they really didn’t have… 1:55
Sam Mellinger: He’s able to attract “a certain kind of kid,” to K-State, where maybe if he went to Alabama he’d have to operate in a totally different way that wouldn’t suit his coaching style and strengths as well…. 1:56
Sam Mellinger: It’s worth noting that a lot of people — Snyder has insinuated as much — blame the fall-off before his retirement in part on chasing higher rated recruits and either landing a guy who didn’jt listen or buy in as much….or missing out on the talent and wasting time that could’ve been spent identifying better fits…. 1:57
Sam Mellinger: I don’t know, I guess in the end I go back to my hard-core stance to never bet against Snyder…. 1:57
Sam Mellinger: But I don’t think it’s as simple as it sounds on the surface. 1:57
Comment From Connor A buddy and me were discussing the fact that columnists in bad sports towns have a tougher job. That it’s more difficult for them to write the same story different ways, and that they end up better in the long run. Has the Chiefs/Royals losing ways made you a better columnist? 1:57
Sam Mellinger: Hmmm, wow, you guys saved the best questions for the end…. 1:57
Sam Mellinger: I’m not sure how to answer that, and I don’t think I should without giving it some thought…. 1:57
Sam Mellinger: Next time? …. 1:58
Sam Mellinger: Or maybe Twitter Tuesday? I’ll think about this… 1:58
Sam Mellinger: . 1:58
Comment From Matt Thanks for answering, I trust you much more then ole brace face. I do miss him though 1:58
Sam Mellinger: We all need something ugly to kick around on our bad days. I understand. 1:58
Moderator: That’s it for today. Thanks for your questions! 1:58
Sam Mellinger: Thanks everybody, hope it was worth your time. 1:58
