"The NFL is letting its game be defiled and its reputation universally trashed for what amounts to dinner for two at Subway"
The Kansas City Star
The story of the week is the NFL continuing to let its games be soiled by men who — bless their hearts — are something like ground chuck being served at a fine restaurant.
Even now, after the game has been embarrassed and players are taking a green light to put their league on blast, progress in negotiations is measured and we’re about to start another weekend with the substitute teachers^.
^ UPDATE: There are reports that the regular refs could be back this weekend. Too late, but still very good if true.
Mike Freeman of CBS Sportsline has a source who says the league has saved $3.5 million using the replacements, and I’m not sure who gave him that, but if it’s someone trying to make the league look better they failed miserably.
$3.5 million is 0.04 percent of league revenues, or the equivalent of $18.78 for the median American household.
Put another way: the NFL is letting its game be defiled and its reputation universally trashed for what amounts to dinner for two at Subway.
Disgusting. Insulting. And that’s why I wrote this morning’s column, please give it a read.
