Ten questions for Andy Reid

Sam Mellinger

The Kansas City Star

Andy Reid will “meet” Kansas City for the first time today, and if the excitement is mutual he will literally do cartwheels into the press conference and give everyone in the room a big hug.

This is the beginning of a very different time for the Chiefs, and all due respect to Buddy Bell, it’s hard to imagine it getting much worse than … that.

I don’t know what Reid will be like in Kansas City. His rep in Philly was no-nonsense, dry press conferences, as little information in the public as possible. So I’m not sure what we’ll really learn today, but here are 10 questions — in no particular order — I think Kansas City would like answered.

  • You can be honest with us. The helicopter chase was a bit much, right?

  • Who will be your general manager?

  • What’s your expectation of the franchise’s new power structure? How do you expect decisions to be made between you and the new GM? And who has final say in the draft?

  • Who will be your quarterback? Or, at least, how do you expect to acquire him?

  • Besides quarterback, what do you see as the roster’s biggest need for improvement?

  • Just making sure here … you won’t sign Stanford Routt, right?

  • What’s a fair timetable to get the Chiefs back to being competitive?

  • What’s your best Phily-fans-are-jerkwads story?

  • Many wonder if a year off would’ve been good for you. How have you been able to deal with these tragedies in your personal life, and have you been able to take inventory of what went wrong in Philadelphia?

  • What’s your plan for the defense? Will it be a Dick Vermeil situation, where you hire the best guy you can find and let him run the show? Or will you decide 3-4 vs 4-3, gameplan focuses, etc?
